Progress on Hygiene (SDG target 6.2)

Handwashing is a cost-effective intervention to improve public health by drastically reducing the spread of infectious diseases.

SDG target 6.2 is: ‘By 2030, achieve access to adequate and equitable sanitation and hygiene for all and end open defecation, paying special attention to the needs of women and girls and those in vulnerable situations.’

To track progress towards the target, SDG indicator 6.2.1b monitors the proportion of population with a handwashing facility with soap and water available at home.
